AM Foundation organises several initiatives for the health and well-being of local communities. The ‘Happy Periods Project’ is one such programme. It was conceptualised and executed in partnership with Sanitation First India, which provides sustainable non-sewered sanitation solutions through individual, community, school, and urban and semi-urban slum projects.
Closed mindsets, customs and societal biases often prevent young girls from acquiring accurate information on menstruation. This hampers their ability to ensure hygiene during this crucial phase.
The Happy Periods Project aims to bridge this awareness gap. The initiative aims to dispel taboos and myths around menstruation, among school-going students. At a broader level, the project is a means for health workers to reach the other members of society, with school students taking the project content to their homes and, thereby, to the community.
